summary: Georgiana takes a job as a chef on a private cruise party despite knowing that the ship's owner is an infamous womanizer. She needs the payment to take care of her three younger sisters, as they are parentless and struggling to keep their household together. The earl who owns the ship's mistress fights with the earl (about his obvious interest in the chef) and pushes him overboard. In his fall and near drowning, he gets amnesia. To save her reputation when the "washed ashore man" says he must have slept with her, Georgiana claims to be the man's wife and proceeds to take him to her house and have him work off the missed payment by doing husbandly chores. If you think this sounds like a gender-swapped Overboard, I'd have to agree.
tropes:
- amnesia
- rich man falls for poor women
- rich man learns about himself
- great food brings people together
- orphans fending for themselves
- mean mistress
what I liked: I'm a sucker for the 1987 movie, and I liked the way Reid reimagined it. I liked Reid's portrayal of both of the main characters and several of the side characters, including Georgiana's younger sisters.
what I didn’t like: not much. I thought this was a fun read.
